Hope everyone had a great and safe Christmas!
CDC shortens quarantine period for healthcare workers and public
You may have heard over the weekend that the CDC shortened the quarantine period for healthcare workers, basically saying that healthcare workers could come to work even if COVID positive - this obviously caught a lot of flak, because COVID positive HCW can go to work and spread COVID to others and their patients. Asinine policy. It was done in an effort to counteract the surge of COVID cases to ensure hospitals (that are already struggling with worker shortages) don’t completely run out of HCWs, but it’s going to backfire as hospitals will undoubtably take advantage of this and further exploit healthcare workers
Today, the CDC extended that recommendation to the general public as well. It has shortened the isolation time from 10 to 5 days, if asymptomatic, for COVID positive persons, with masking for 5 additional days. For those who are exposed, the recommendation is to quarantine for 5 days for persons who are unvaccinated or vaccinated but not yet boosted (but >6m from their vaccination), with masking for 5 additional days. For those who are boosted, they don’t need to quarantine. For all exposed, a test at day 5 regardless of symptoms is recommended.

Obviously, everyone will have to interpret the above in context of their own situation and circumstances. What do you think of this? Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

This is ridiculous!!! Especially because we have no idea if we have omicron or delta. Rolling in to 2022 on the hot mess express. Our testing site in NWFL did over 400 tests for the day by 2pm. I’m immunocompromised, I’ll err on the side of caution and continue to use the previous guidelines. Thank you for all you do Dr. Siyab. Sigh.
I think this is crazy! The problem with COVID and the vaccine in the first place was that the CDC and other organizations including the government are NOT consistent. This only opens the door to more conspiracy theories, more miss understanding and fear mongering. How is the public going to ever trust the CDC if they are all wishy washy in what this needed! And I am in Florida! They already have their heads stuck deep in the sand! This CDC thing is just creating a bigger mess!!!!
